Punjab Kings left-arm orthodox spinner Harpreet Brar has picked Yuvraj Singh as his cricketing idol. Yuvraj is regarded as one of the best white-ball players India has ever produced, and he played a key role in taking the country to glory in the 2011 ODI World Cup.

Singh scored 362 runs in eight innings of the ODI showpiece at a stunning average of 90.50. Furthermore, he scalped 15 wickets in the tournament at an average of 25.13 and thus was awarded Player of the Tournament for his all-round performance.

Yuvraj scored 8701 runs in 304 ODI matches at an average of 36.56 and took 111 wickets. Furthermore, he scored 1177 runs in 58 T20Is at an average of 28.02 and a strike rate of 136.39.

Brar said in an interview with Cricbuzz, “Ever since I got to know about cricket in 2002-03, I have liked Yuvraj Singh a lot. I would copy his batting style as a kid. I started cricket on those foundations: I need to bat like him; I need to bowl and field like him.”

Brar also revealed how he practised with the Indian team on the tour of England in 2025 after contacting skipper Shubman Gill.

“He (Gill) said, ‘Yes, you can come’. So, I managed to practice with the team. I think Shubman himself didn’t come that day. It was optional practice. But I practiced with the rest and really liked it. Also, it’s always great to meet your own people on foreign soil!” said Brar (via the aforementioned source).

India had a 2-2 draw against England in the five-match Test series. Gill was able to lead from the front as he amassed 754 runs in five Test matches at an average of 75.40.
