Former Indian Test opener Wasim Jaffer showered praise on Sai Sudharsan after Gujarat Titans registered a comprehensive 82-run win against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, in the ongoing IPL 2026 on Tuesday.
The left-hander scored 61 runs off 44 balls with the help of five fours and two sixes against the Orange Army. Thus, he played an instrumental role in helping GT post a decent score of 168 runs on the board.
The southpaw is currently second in the highest run-getter list of IPL 2026 with 501 runs in 12 matches at an average of 41.75 and a strike rate of 155.10.
“To hold the orange cap again, he was not even in the race at the start, but the way he is making runs now and showing consistency, I have said it before as well that this franchise is suiting him, and the pitch also helps him. He plays orthodox and cricketing shots but he does not play slowly. He does surprise you. He scores on both sides and is very impressive. The franchise relies on him heavily. He delivers time and again. We do not take his name for the Indian T20 team, but he is putting his case forward. This guy has to be there. He is scoring consistently. So why not? Why should we only see six hitting? He is doing his job. His name should also be there in contention,” Wasim Jaffer said on his YouTube channel.
Jaffer also praised Washington Sundar for his impressive knock of 50 runs off 33 balls. The left-hander scored seven fours and one six in his fine innings.
“I think he is a batter who can bowl. He bowls well too but has limitations. When he is given responsibility, he prospers. We can see that now. He is consistently batting at four or five. Otherwise, before this, he was not being played consistently. Now that he is getting game time, he is prospering. He is not afraid. He does surprise you with his stroke making. GT is making good use of him, and he is delivering.”
Gujarat Titans will next take on Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Saturday.
